As you know, following our production of The Merry Wives of Windsor which raised in excess of £14,000 for Child Bereavement UK, we were planning to do The Taming of the Shrew in 2022 to be directed by Jennamarie Gwynne with James Gwynne as Assistant Director. Jennamarie has recently advised that she and James have had an offer on a house accepted which will take them out of area and, after careful consideration, sadly, they will not be able to be with us on this project. We would like to wish Jennamarie and James every happiness in their new home.
We have concluded therefore that we will not be able to proceed with The Taming of the Shrew and I can now give you the exciting news that our 2022 production will be a new production of one of Shakespeare’s very great plays, Macbeth in aid of Child Bereavement UK. The play will be staged over one week from 14th – 18th June 2022 at our usual and wonderful venue, Stubbings, near Maidenhead. We are planning to do five nights once again next year.
We are also delighted to announce that Lou Tait will be our director. Lou is well known in local theatre and is an experienced director of plays, musicals and reviews including Look Back In Anger, A Christmas Carol, Kiss Me Kate, Guys & Dolls and many others. Lou was in our first cast of Much Ado About Nothing in 2009, stage manager in 2010 in Bath and directed a memorable production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for us in 2011. We look forward very much to working with Lou on Macbeth.
Shakespeare’s dark tragedy tells of ambition and guilt amidst a background of regicide, violence and the supernatural. When a trio of witches tells returning hero warrior Macbeth that he is fated to become King of Scotland, he attempts to forge his own destiny. Aided and encouraged by his wife, he embarks on a guilt-ridden reign of terror.
“Powerful and compelling …. gripping and absorbing on a warm summer’s evening !“
